Creating Large Grate Arrays

Grate arrays offer a variety of functional, environmental, and aesthetic benefits, especially useful for the following applications:

Large Format Tree Grates

Rain 4′ x 4′ heel-proof tree grates and 24″ x 48″ extension panels combined to create three large arrays – the left and right arrays are 5′ x 79′-7″, and the middle array is 7′ x 79′-7″. Raw cast iron. DESIGN: Floura Teeter. PROJECT: Rye Street. LOCATION: Baltimore, MD. See our article, “8 Benefits of Large Tree Grate Arrays” for more details.

Pedestrian Bridges

This permeable bridge deck, clad in cast aluminum 20″ x 40″ Locust heel proof grate panels, is just one element in a complex system beautifully designed to capture, filter, and detain runoff from the roof and surrounding paved areas. DESIGN: Towers|Golde. PROJECT: Life Science Laboratories, University of Massachusetts – Amherst. LOCATION: Amherst, MA. See our article, “Decorative Grating in Pedestrian Bridge Designs” for more details.

Stormwater Management

This is one in a series of stormwater flumes topped with arrays of our Oblio 27″ x 37″ and 27″ x 47″ grates. Cast iron with “antique bronze pearlescent” powder coat finish. DESIGN: The Olsson Studio. PROJECT: Grandscape. LOCATION: The Colony, TX.

The following tables show which of our grates are designed to pair seamlessly together to create large arrays such as the ones pictured above:

Tree Grates with Extension Panels that can be arrayed by Length and/or Width

Tree Grates with Extension Panels that can be arrayed Lengthwise Only

Grate Panels that can be arrayed by Length and/or Width

In addition to these grate combinations, we can also work with you on custom arrays. We have the expertise, creativity, and design know-how to help you create a one-of-a-kind solution. Contact us to discuss the specifics of your project.
